Influenced by a lifetime in the
Caribbean, Essud Fungcap paints to excite, to calm, and to stir emotion with
sensitivity to color and form. He acknowledges the contributions that a
bi-cultural up-bringng, a Chinese father and a Haitian mother, have made to
his sense of wonder of the world around him. Music like the peaceful
tropical style that reinforces his work, is an integral part of Essud’s
life. He finds many parallels in the works of great Latin, jazz and
classical composers as he searches for the natural rhythm of his own work.
Essud sees himself as a composer of sorts, bringing together different
mediums, ideas and emotions to create harmony and bring “life” to his
paintings. In his own words, “A life without art would bring despair,
but art without the life it seeks to represent would be unbearable.” |
