The Afro-American Cultural Center has an
immediate opening for a full-time
Cultural and Outreach Education Programs Manager.
Responsibilities:
The Cultural Education and Programs Manager is responsible for
developing, implementing, managing and evaluating cultural and outreach
education programs for a full range of curriculum-based art educational
services for school children (pre-K-12), families and professional
artists. These programs (on and off-site) provide community workshops,
lecture/demonstrations and teaching artists to various school and
community groups. These programs are intended to address state and
national learning standards.
The
Cultural Education and Programs Manager reports directly to the Director
of Operations and Public Programs. In addition, the position
collaborates with the Director of Development, President/CEO office,
site coordinators, and other AACC personnel. Duties include, but are
not limited to the following:

Support the Board of Directors of The
Afro- American Cultural Center in all requests according to the
policies of the Board.

Develop long-range goals and
objectives for the AACC’s services to schools and teachers.
Establish a systematic series of steps to accomplish these goals and
objectives over time with clearly articulated benchmarks, with the
understanding that it is important to be flexible enough to
incorporate the concerns of the education community and respond to
emerging opportunities.

Interfaces with all the Center’s
departments to insure that educational and cultural programs reflect
current scholarship and interpretation, are publicized widely in the
community, are carried out in the most effective manner related to
facilities and the visitor experience, are financially responsible,
and are managed well.

Works with the Director of Operations
and Public Programs to develop and manage the on-going budgets for
each component of cultural and educational outreach programs. This
includes the purchasing of services, payment procedures, and all
budget management operations in compliance with AACC policy.

Generate monthly reports on cultural
and educational outreach programs including accomplishments, new
developments, expressions of needs and overall operations.

Interface with the AACC Program
Committee and Director of Operations and Programs to forge
connections between the formal education of students (pre-K to 12)
and their informal (or free-choice) experiences that occur outside
of school.

Measure and evaluate effectiveness of
programs.

Manage the process of program
development, planning, logistics and implementation for Cultural
Education, Artists in Residence, Education in the Arts, Roundtable
Fellows and continuing education.

Provide monthly program schedules,
attendance, budgets and cash needs reports, by program or activity,
for the Director of Operations and Public Programs.

Collect input from all programs and
departments sufficient to maintain current data.

Develop and manage customer
relationships with school personnel, Mecklenburg Co. Parks and
Recreation, other arts organizations and funding sources for prior
years.

Document all contacts in database
system.

Manage the Artists Development Round
Table - find appropriate funding to make this a continuous,
permanent program.

Manage all contractual artists
including volunteer’s collaborations.

Build in quality and accountability,
and expand markets.

Negotiate contracts and terms and
monitor and evaluate performance and contract compliance, with
review with the Director of Operations and Public Programs.

Assist with marketing programs
-
Develop concepts for in-house, age
appropriate programs for ages Pre-K to 12.

Assist facility renters and guest with
space use, set-up event management.

Assist with grant applications and
reports;
-
Assist with identifying funding for
recommended programs;

Develop and utilize Program Management
tools and strategies to insure proper advance planning and effective
implementation of all events and/or programs.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, museum education, or a
related field, as well as at least 3 to 5 years non-profit and/or art
museum experience. The position requires excellent management skills,
creativity, the ability to communicate (speaking and writing) with a
wide range of people, and the ability to collaborate with professionals
and volunteers. Ability to multi-task and to handle multiple requests.
Excellent computer skills. Ability to work well within a dynamic team
environment and excellent interpersonal skills are imperative.
