TEEN DANCE AND DRAMA ENSEMBLE

Charlotte teens will have an opportunity to develop and showcase their
performance arts talents through the Afro-American Cultural Center’s
Teen Dance and Drama Ensembles.
The
ensembles are pre-professional training troupes that meet once a week for
drama, twice a week for dance. This program is geared for students ages 10
through nineteen.
Local performance artists assist with training the
students.
The Teen Dance and Drama Ensembles are a
nine-month commitment, with students participating in a winter and spring
showcase.
The selected teens do performances during Black
History Month in February and when commissioned by the community.
Participants pay a $5.00 registration fee and
$200.00 for the year, which goes toward materials and costumes. The dance
ensemble meets on Mondays from 5 until 7 p.m. at area dance studios and the
drama ensemble meets on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Center’s
Attic Theater.
This
pre-professional training gives students a glimpse of what will be expected
of them when they get out into the real world of performing arts. All
performances are presented in the Attic Theater. Performances are in
December, prior to the holidays, the last weekend in March, and the last
weekend in April. Show times and days are as follows: Fri and Saturday at
7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4:00 p.m. Admission to performances is $5.00.
The Afro-American Cultural Center exists to
promote, preserve and present African American art, history and culture to
the citizens of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.
The Center is located at 401 North Myers Street
near the corner of Seventh and McDowell Streets. For more information on
this event or other programs, call (704) 374-1565. |
